3 Must-See Sessions at ASHE Conference in Nashville

by | Aug 7, 2021 | Best Practices

The ASHE Annual Conference 2021 in Nashville brings together the nation’s top experts in healthcare facilities management and engineering! We’re very excited to meet all of you there and welcome you to our Booth #421!

Here are the Three Must-See Sessions at this year’s flagship conference.

#1: Into the Unknown: How Leadership, Ingenuity & Perseverance Put A Rover on Mars

Speaker: Adam Steltzner, Leader & Chief Engineer, NASA Mars 2020 Mission, Rover Perseverance

When: Monday, 9th August, 8.00am at Karl F. Dean Grand Ballroom

Only Adam Steltzner and his talented team at Jet Propulsion Lab could follow their “Curiosity” rover success with the stunning Mars 2020 mission to land the rover “Perseverance” on the red planet. The magnificent landing on Mars on February 18, 2021 was akin to hurling a dart from New York City to land in a five-foot circle in Washington, D.C. More than a technological achievement, the successful mission stands as an extraordinary leadership accomplishment in the midst of a global pandemic. In his exhilarating keynote, full of fascinating anecdotes and breathtaking images, Steltzner shares his own innovation challenges, leadership struggles and flawless execution. Most importantly, he shows how you can overcome daunting obstacles in times of uncertainty and change. The human spirit is boundless, and Steltzner leaves you unafraid to journey from your comfort zone to explore your own exciting future.

#2: Utilizing Precaution Measures: Leading a Program for Operational Compliance

Speaker: Charles Workman, Associate Director, Life Safety and Physical Environment for the Accreditation Commission Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (ACHC-HFAP)

When: Wednesday, August 11th at MCC 104CDE

Learn ways to engage every staff position in the process to meet accreditation expectations. A technical review of common findings from current Healthcare Facilities Accreditation Program (HFAP) surveys and new standards will be used as the basis for examples, providing additional education during the session.

    • Analyze methodology related to survey compliance and specific actions required.
    • Use consistent risk assessment and analysis to meet accreditation requirements, even for physical environment and life safety.
    • Discuss compliance tasks aimed at fully engaging support staff with resources already at your disposal.
    • Explore common findings, solutions and new HFAP tools available. HFAP is now a brand of Accreditation Commission for Health Care, Inc. (ACHC).

#3: Automating Life Safety Testing w/Smart Devices: Case Study w/ Emergency Lighting (Breakfast Session)

Chris Hariz, BSA, Founder of Hexmodal Tech
Utkarsh Shah, BSE, Founder of Hexmodal Tech

When: Monday, 9th August at MCC 103ABC

CMS requires the monthly testing of dozens of life safety devices. Satisfying these testing requirements manually takes up huge amounts of time, returns uncertain test results, and requires difficult to maintain paper records.

This education session covers how Smart Devices can automate these tests by examining how Cushman Wakefield undertook computerization of their emergency lighting system at Women & Infants Hospital and the corresponding operational, economic, and regulatory impacts.
